Afghanistan: Creating a Poultry Farm and Training District Extension Agents in Kunar Province

Home > Project Descriptions > Asia & the Near East

In 2010, the Consortium began working with the California National Guard and its Agribusiness Development Teams (ADT) in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. One of the first projects taken on was the creation of a 1000-bird poultry farm to support a market in the town of Nangalam in Pech District. The long term goal of the project is to expand the project to include eight 1000-bird farms, which will meet the demand for chicken in the area. The goal is to also train District Extension Agents on proper care and management techniques of the farms so those skills can be transferred to the local farmers and cooperatives.
