In cooperation with the government of Albania and USAID, Paul Sommers, from Consortium member California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, directed a two-year project to expand market opportunities for the fresh produce sector in Albania. As a production specialist, he assisted the Albanian government in the design of a master plan of operations to generate growth by upgrading value chains for four high value products. The program also developed an innovative gender integration approach for involving female youth of commercial farm families to remain engaged in agriculture.
